Second in the Strings on the Bay Series.
The Strings on the Bay concert series continues with a back by popular demand concert! A record sized audience was blown away by the skill and musicianship of accordionist Stas Venglevski last year. So much so in fact, that Paul Lundin, director of the Strings on the Bay Series, immediately made plans to bring Venglevski back!
This years program will again include an extensive portion for Stas to show off his incredible abilities playing solo pieces. The concert will open with two seasons first, the familiar Winter concerto by Vivaldi will be played by Lundin on violin accompanied by Venglevski and cellist Roza Borisova. The second, Summer by concerto tango king Astor Piazzolla will be played in the same trio format. After intermission, the concert concludes with the performance of a rare work for Accordion and String Quartet called Five Tango Sensations by Astor Piazzolla.
The Accordion that Stas plays is actually a bayan. Stas performs on the 'B' system bayan by Petosa. This full-size, 5 octave concert accordion has 120 buttons arranged in six rows on the left hand, and 106 buttons arranged in five rows along the keyboard on the right hand. Increasing the bayan's ability to produce an incredible range and spectrum of sounds are 15 registers (stops) on the right, five in the bass, and seven chin registers.
