Strings on the Bay Concert-Hail, Brittania!
A royal wedding. An Oscar winning movie The Kings Speech. Britain has been on our minds this year. Strings on the Bay concludes its summer series with a program of music by English composers and one piece about England. Kaycee Ware Thomas, vocalist and oboist joins Paul Lundin and a string quartet from Ann Arbor in a concert celebrating English nationalism. Ms. Thomas will start the program with Samuel Barbers setting of a Malcolm Arnold poem for String Quartet and Voice entitled Dover Beach. She will then pick up her oboe and play the exotic Arthur Bliss Quintet for Oboe and Strings. After intermission it is Frank Bridges arrangements of English Folk tunes for String Quartet and then the light and summer-like Arnold BaxString Quartet in G Major finishes the evening. The Bliss and the Baxcompositions both utilize traditional English folk melodies. Both composers also held the post Master of the Queens Music. It will be a jolly good concert to attend!
